Kate Craft joined State Fund as Senior Vice President for the Orange County Region in March 2018. She brought with her more than 20 years of insurance experience in underwriting, sales, and leadership. Kate has a long track-record of success building and leading teams to serve customers and achieve organizational goals
We recently sat down with Kate to discuss her role:
Describe your role and how it fits into State Fund’s marketing strategy.
My main goal is to make certain we’re delivering the best possible State Fund experience to our brokers and policyholders. One way I do that is by fostering close relationships with retail brokers that are based on trust. I ensure that we have meaningful two-way feedback. Brokers provide information on market conditions, how we’re doing, and what they need from us to be successful—and we listen to that.
What role do broker’s play in State Fund’s purpose?
Broker relationships are absolutely critical. Our business is still relationship-based. Brokers are the critical path to help us fulfill our mission to serve California employers and increase worker safety. To do that, we have to ensure that our brokers have access to the State Fund resources they need. We help our brokers provide State Fund services to current and future policy holders.
What trends do you see in the Orange County market?
The Workers’ Compensation environment remains very competitive, and State Fund is ready to compete. In my region, we’re having success across all segments: steady new and renewal business in small commercial, plus increased writings in middle market and large accounts.
Is there any recent news you would like brokers to know about?
I appreciate the time our brokers have spent learning more about State Fund. Attending a Claims Tour is one of the best ways to see what we’ve done to deliver a better experience for employers and injured workers. If you can’t attend a Claims Tour in my office, I can bring the tour to you!
Anything personal you’d like to share?
My main hobby is traveling and I just returned from New York City. When I’m not on the road, I spend my time gardening and playing with my two dogs, Charlie & Beau.
